Dear Madera Faculty and Staff,
We’re pleased to report that the Madera PTA had our first meeting and approved a program budget for the 2008-2009 school year. The budget includes more than $80,000 in direct support for school programs and instruction.
Included in the budget is $20 per student for all teachers for both classroom supplies and field trips ($40 total). The budget also includes $4,000 in funding for cultural arts (school-wide assemblies), and increased funding for music education, computer instruction, library book purchases, and the Madera Garden project. We will also continue funding popular activities like the Olympics, the 1000 Page Club, International Night, the Winter Sing-Along, and the Science and Art Fairs.
New this year, the PTA budgeted an additional $10,000 for new school year programs. Ideas suggested so far include science enrichment, additional field trip bus support, PE activities, and other programs. We invite suggestions and ideas from the faculty and parent community for this additional investment this year. Also, we have earmarked $10,000 in funding for contingency spending, pending the outcome of the State budget crisis. These funds will be held in reserve for possible use if a program or activity is cut this year as a result of budget negotiations.
In addition to all of these budgeted programs, the PTA will also be developing a plan to invest as much as $50,000 or $60,000 in our reserve funds this year. Ideas that have been proposed include outdoor shade structures, an outdoor amphitheater, the Madera Garden, and lower grass field rehabilitation. We encourage ideas and suggestions regarding this wonderful opportunity to invest for the future of the school, and will be discussing this more at the October PTA meeting.
If there are any questions or ideas, please let us know.
