And the band played on

Hi all- the second sectional meeting for brass instruments was held this morning and there was a room-full of aspiring trumpet players… along with one French horn and one trombone! Yesterday and today’s groups will meet Thursday after school for their first combined band class.

There is still room for the Friday band- with sectionals meeting on Thursday (woodwinds) and Friday (brass) mornings. Drop by or call the EC Community Center if you’d like to sign up. They can be reached at (510) 559-7002.

Lastly, one of my colleagues at my “day job” attended a workshop today about the value of arts education. A speaker reported that research has proven that studying music can help students to learn or improve their:

  • self-discipline
  • self-confidence
  • creative competency
  • listening skills
  • critical thinking
  • social skills
  • emotional expression
  • community membership
  • validation and affirmation

Thanks to all of the parents and students for taking part in the Madera band program!
