Spring Band

Hi all- the Madera Band program resumes next week. If your child was in the band last Fall and would like to continue, then s/he should resume classes and band rehearsals next week at the same dates/times as in the fall. If for some reason this schedule won’t work for you in the spring, please discuss with Tiffany or Marcos.

For NEW students, there will be a new beginning band class that will begin in another two weeks: the week of January 25th. For beginning students, the instrument practices will be at Madera on Thursday mornings, and the full band rehearsals will be at the COMMUNITY CENTER on Tuesday afternoons. A flier about the spring band program is attached. If you have any questions, please let me know, or you can call the City at (510) 559-7000.

Costs for this program will be $60 per child for the intermediate band session, and $50 per child for beginners. Note: the spring session is actually longer than the fall session, so although the cost is the same, it’s actually less expensive per week than last fall– this is possible due to our high numbers of band students, and the generous support of the Madera PTA.

Instrument rentals, if needed, run about $20 to $40 per month, depending on the instrument, whether it’s new or used, and where you get it. A good place to start is A&G music at 565 14th St, Oakland. They are open Tues- Sat, from 9:00 to 5:30.   You could also try Music Works on San Pablo Ave in El Cerrito.

Scholarship support is available for class tuition and instrument rental. Please ask me or the City staff for more details.

Best regards,

David Miller
