technology in 21st century education

At the last PTA meeting the topic of technology and our students came up as we were discussing the purchasing of some video projectors and possible interactive student response systems (promethean matching grant) for classroom use at Madera. I said I would share some resources that might help people get a bigger picture of what we can do as a community to help prepare our students for their technology rich futures.

I am including some links to some resources published by ISTE – The International Society for Technology in Education.

California educators often use these standards as guidelines when writing & adopting new policies, as well as writing technology plans and grants.

These profiles are based on ISTE’s core belief that all students must have regular opportunities to use technology to develop skills that encourage personal productivity, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration in the classroom and in daily life. Coupled with the standards, the profiles provide a set of examples for preparing students to be lifelong learners and contributing members of a global society.

Here is the link to the IST Student Profiles in PDF – and a webpage with the same content in a different online format.

If you are interested in this topic and.or looking for additional resources – this is another good site is The Partnership for 21st Century Skills  – a national  organization that advocates for 21st century readiness for every student.
