As I mentioned last night at the PTA meeting there is an important Measure coming up on the June ballot, Measure K.
Measure K does require a 2/3 approval. This is a district parcel tax, so only voters who live in WCCUSD will vote on this, and it will only support WCCUSD schools. It will extend the existing parcel tax to 2017, rather than letting it expire in 2014.
Class size reduction is one of the key items funded by the parcel tax — the current parcel tax funds elementary class size reduction, and if Measure K doesn’t pass, those class sizes will rise as early as fall 2012. Teachers who have already received pink slips will keep their current jobs if the measure passes. The parcel tax funds classroom programs that will directly impact our students; none of this money can be used for administrative salaries.
Madera is one of the top 5 schools in the whole district for its number of voting parents, so I really want to stress to your what a big difference our school can make! We need volunteers to help get the word out!
Please join teachers, parents and community supporters by volunteering time to support the campaign to renew and extend our parcel tax.
Upcoming phone banking to other WCCUSD parents in the El Cerrito catchment area will be held on particular phone banking nights:
Wednesday April 18 and Monday April 30 from 5:30-7:30 pm training and dinner will be provided, and Sunday May 20 from 1-3 pm.
Location is likely to be in Point Richmond, but will be finalized shortly.
