The Boot Classic is an Unofficial Invitational Kickball Tournament and the brain child of 6th grade students at Madera Elementary. The idea behind it is to have a kickball tournament and to let the kids show off some of their kickball prowess. Three other schools, Kensington, Harding, and Fairmount have accepted the invitation and have participated in it’s creation and they each will field their own teams. They will also get an opportunity to get to know each other a bit before they step-up and join ranks at Portola Middle School. It is the result and reward for initiative and innovation on the part of the students themselves and is hoped to become an annual event.
There will be 4 games in this round robin tournament. Each school will field a team of a minimum 11 co-ed students in the 4th , 5th, and 6th grades. How each school determines the make-up of their teams is up to each school. And the kids have all agreed that all donations and funds raised at the event will be split equally between the schools.
As an added bonus there will also be at least one Dad’s Club Tug-of-War in-between games. Kensington’s Dad’s Club thinks they have the weight? We shall see.
The event will be open to the public. This is an unofficial event so there will be no permission slip, but all kids are required to have adult supervision, so chaperone’s please – No childcare will be provided. There will be some concessions available but as it is a lengthy event – a little sustenance may be in order. We recommend that spectators and players bring a bag lunch, camp chairs, blankets, and jackets as well as their best behavior.
Any volunteers to help set-up, assist, break down or officiate will be more than welcome. Please contact me directly if you can help.
And yes, there is a trophy that the winning school can take to their hall’s display case until the following year. So, please come out and support your school.
All apologies in advance for scheduling this on ECYB’s Opening Day. I know there are quite a few who will find this in conflict with your schedule, but it could not be helped. We are hoping that the afternoon schedule will give you time to make it out to Madera.
Thank You, Have a Great Day, and Go Madera!
