Dear Madera Family,

Isn’t it amazing how time goes by so very quickly?!  Here we are already at March – a month packed with activity!  The calendar is attached (PDF) but here are a few highlights:

On Saturday, the long-awaited Boot Classic Kickball Tournament will finally take place.  This event was put together by an enthusiastic group of our 6th grade students with the support, guidance and expertise of Christian Matthews.   Many thanks to all of them for their vision and work to make this happen!  Each school is sending one team to participate so come out between baseball festivities to cheer on our Madera team and meet other families from Kensington, Harding and Fairmont.

Next week, please join us on Thursday, March 7, from 6:30-7:30, for Open House.  We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone! This is the time for your children to be your guide, showing off their school and their hard work.  If you need to speak with your child’s teacher about specific questions or concerns, please contact the teacher to arrange a conference at another time.

The work on the corner of Arlington and Madera is coming along.  Thank you for your patience with the process and, to those of you who have taken the time, the kind words to the crew.  It’s always nice to hear that our Madera family is representing us well, especially in the midst of what could be extraordinarily frustrating for a variety of reasons. Please be extra careful walking and driving so that you and your kids get here safely.

A couple more thoughts about safety:

  • For your safety and ours, please be sure to sign in and out in the office when you visit our school.
  • We don’t allow children to play on the play structures after school.  I realize that it’s a nice gathering place for some of you.  However, there is no supervision on the yard after school and we want to make sure that all kids are heading home safely.  Thanks for your help with this.
  • The rock in the magic circle is such an attractive thing to climb… but we can’t.  Thanks.

In the next few weeks committee meetings will be held to begin defining long and short term goals for our school.  Please let me know if you would like to help with any of the following: yard supervision and activities; arts; technology; library; or, science.  Dates for those meetings will be posted here.

Grateful for all that you do for your children and our school community,

Alison Makela
