Auction Attire Confusing You?
We have heard from a lot of parents and teachers the desire to be culturally sensitive with the Bollywood theme. We appreciate that mindfulness and would like to assure everyone that this should be a fun event celebrating the immense diversity in India. Culturally it is a land of fusion of rural India and large cosmopolitan cities; through it all runs a theme of vibrant color, loud sounds, bold flavors, strong smells.
What Not to Wear
Indians treat their flag a little differently and only recently it has become acceptable to have the Indian flag on gear like hats or T-shirts. As long as you keep the flag off shoes, or pants where you are not sitting on it, you are fine. It is also best to avoid any idols like Ganesha (Elephant God) or Krishna etc.
In a nutshell, be colorful, be happy, and be ready to party and have a fun time! Bollywood is the HOLLYWOOD of BOMBAY, so women, wear your colorful sarees and men, your summery kurtas, OR, if you want to go the more Hollywood direction, GLAM IT UP with black tie… The red carpet awaits your arrival!!
And, Finally, here are some images, besides the traditional sarees, and kurtas, some Indian fusion ideas. If you are not going all out, throw on a scarf, wear a big skirt, wear bold prints, big jewelry etc.
