Conscious Kitchen At Madera

A Taste of The Conscious Kitchen At Madera

Dear Madera Parents,

In partnership with WCCUSD, we are preparing to host a week-long Conscious Kitchen Tasting where we will cook and serve breakfast and lunch to 1,600 students in three schools: Mira Vista Elementary School in Richmond, Peres Elementary School in Richmond and Madera Elementary School in El Cerrito.

As you may know, one of the most pressing challenges facing our country is a lack of access to healthy, nutritious food in schools for all children, regardless of demographics or socioeconomic factors. We created The Conscious Kitchen to address this need and offer a paradigm-shifting new model for school food service.

Our approach replaces the substandard, pre-packaged, heat and serve model with healthy, delicious scratch-cooked meals prepared by a Chef on site in zero-waste kitchens based on five foundational attributes; fresh, local, organic, seasonal and non-GMO (FLOSN).

The Conscious Kitchen Tasting Week is an opportunity to demonstrate the immense impact FLOSN food can have on children’s’ health, academic performance, behavior and life outcomes.

How to participate in 3 simple steps:

Step 1: RESERVE MEALS for your child.

Please reserve a free breakfast and/or lunch for your child/children. You can view the menu and reserve as many meals as you like.

NOTE: Regular school lunches WILL NOT be served during the week of January 30 to February 3.

In order to successfully serve these students and demonstrate that The Conscious Kitchen meals program is possible, we need your help as a volunteer. We promise a rewarding, gratifying experience where you will work hard, make new connections, and interact with an incredible community. We invite you, your friends and colleagues on this journey with us to transform the lives of children through nourishing school food.

As a part of this project, we are looking to conduct a baseline survey which will assess the current meals program and provide us with important data regarding school lunches.  This data will then be compared to a follow up survey done during the week-long Conscious Kitchen Tasting.

In order to do this, we are looking for 5 volunteers per day during the week of 1/9 – 1/13 form 11:30am to 1: 30pm. We will be observing how much of the current school lunch our children eat, and how much goes to waste.

Thank you for for you help! We hope that your children will enjoy this very special week!

With gratitude,
The Conscious Kitchen Team
