Running Club

What:  Madera Running Club is a voluntary before school activity for all grade levels. Family participation is encouraged. Students do not have to run, walkers are welcome as well.  Any students on campus during Running Club must participate, please no early drop offs.

Why:  Studies have shown that physical activity has an overall positive effect on academic performance, representing measures of academic achievement, academic behavior, and cognitive skills and attitudes.

When: Monday–Friday from 8:00–8:20.  Parent volunteers are needed daily from 7:50 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Student volunteers are also welcome! Sorry, no Running Club on rainy days. Running Club for the 2019–2020 school year starts on Tuesday September 3th, 2019 and ends on Friday, May 22nd, 2020.

Where:  Madera lower yard track.

How does it work:  Each child will drop off their backpack and come pick up their runner ID badge (every student has a badge, no need to sign up in advance).  Each time the child completes a lap their badge will be scanned.  Run distance data will be uploaded to a secure website at the end of the week. The children can view their progress and the overall school progress by logging into the stride track website with their individual runner ID:  (The student’s individual runner ID number will be provided in the Friday Folder, but can also be found on their runner badge). Nine times around the track equals 1 mile.

Rainy day policy: There will be no Running Club on days with a 75% or greater chance of rain at 7:00 am, or if it is raining at 7:30 am.  Please, on rainy days, DO NOT drop off children before 8:20 am.

Cancellations: Running Club may be cancelled on occasion due to weather, lack of volunteers, or other unforeseen circumstances.  Cancellations notifications will be sent out via by 7:30am.

School goal:  Let’s try to beat last years total mileage of 7,471!

Running Club could not happen without our amazing parent volunteers.  We need volunteers to set up at 7:50am, scanners between 8:00-8:20am, and help collecting and putting badges away from 8:20-8:30am.  Student volunteers are appreciated as well!  While we greatly appreciate and encourage drop-in volunteers, we cannot proceed with Running Club without committed parent volunteers.  Please contact Kati Oliver at to sign up to volunteer.
