What: Madera Running Club is a voluntary before school activity for all grade levels. Family participation is welcome. Students do not have to run, walkers are welcome as well.
Why: Studies have shown that physical activity has an overall positive effect on academic performance, representing measures of academic achievement, academic behavior, and cognitive skills and attitudes.
When: Monday –Friday from 8:00-8:20. Parent volunteers are needed daily from 7:50-8:30. (Sorry, no Running Club on rainy days. Rain cancels event) Running Club starts Tuesday September 8th.
Where: Madera lower yard track.
How does it work: Each child will drop off their backpack and come pick up their runner ID badge. Each time the child completes a lap their badge will be scanned. Run distance data will be uploaded to a secure website. The children can view their progress and the overall school progress by logging into the stride track website with their individual runner ID : http://www.stridetrack.net/StrideTrack/#. (See quarter sheet paper for the student’s individual runner ID number.) – Nine times around the track equals 1 mile. Initial School Goal: Our initial goal as a school will be to run across our country from San Francisco to New York and back 5128 miles. Progress will be updated on a map located in the hallway near the office. Lets try to beat last years total mileage of 5088.
